I want to share a recent chat I had with student Marc Palardy, with who I've had the pleasure to work with all 4 quarterly Boot Camps in 2022!
Throughout the span of the year, he's radically grown each session as he went all-in on car-inspired manga art that he's hella proud of.
He felt he was at a point to test out some monetization with his first print...
But they weren't selling as well as he had thought (better believe I bought one though!).
Sadly, I had to break the news that only 1% of people who say they'll buy actually will.
On one of our Wednesday Boot Camp Calls, I said something along the lines of:
"It's hard to sell a print when you're so early in the game—it's easy to force this but there's a bigger game to play to get people invested in what you do.
"How can we get to know you more and be more connected to who you are...you know, the human behind the craft."
"More importantly, why do you care about your art and who are you within your creative identity."
"Don't just be an art account that focuses on selling your art non-stop."
"Be Marc Palardy, the dude who draws dope manga-styled cars, is a dad, works a day job, yet still shows up for his dream. "
I then hit him with this action item:
"Show us who the hell Marc Palardy is in a post due by Friday (last week)."
He rose up to the challenge...

And this is the message he sent me + an exchange of words between us as we celebrated his breakthrough.
This is literally how I carry conversations with my students...typos, foul language, and all...
You get 100% me in everything I do—we are family and will celebrate all wins, big and small.
This is the type of real experience I focus on creating with incredible humans like you.
