Enjoy the Growth During Your Climb
Growing up, I couldn’t understand how to show up each day and pursue something I wanted badly. If it wasn’t easy, then I didn’t want any part of the struggle.Sadly, that’s how most people operate these days. Showing up each day takes effort—effort many don’t want to invest.Showing up each day invested in yourself can be difficult to wrap your mind around, especially since most of the time showing up is related to building an online audience. Not everyone may be interested in this but growing an audience is a byproduct of showing up if you decide to share and teach along the way. There is so much more to it and I feel it’s important to share a conversation I had with someone recently on the topic. This conversation happened with one of my readers, Neil Vippu, through Snapchat. It compelled me to write this post because maybe it’ll be the extra push you need to pursue what it is you truly want in life and experience the benefits of showing up.The main takeaway I wanted to share was this:[perfectpullquote align="full" cite="" link="" color="2e2e2e" class="" size=""]“It really is crazy what happens when you show up consistently—and not even for just the growth of an audience, but for personal growth in work, attitude, physical, mental and spiritual health. It’s all so tied together in a delicate balance.”[/perfectpullquote]This is about the climb and experiencing personal growth along the way.Maybe this is starting to pique your interest, but what does showing up each day actually mean?
What Defines Showing Up Each Day?
Others could define this differently but I believe showing up each day is making the commitment to become the best version of yourself. This is done through mindful production and consumption in the essential things in life that stem from your why. It’s a commitment towards taking care of yourself both physically and mentally—while improving your overall quality of life.Showing up could be as simple as:
listening to one podcast on personal development
creating one drawing
writing for 30 minutes
reading one article online
riding your bike instead of driving
This isn’t a sometimes thing. Granted, each day you show up isn’t always going to match the same intensity. It’s okay to have an off day as long as you took a productive step forward to grow in one area.
Constant Work in Progress
You and I are not perfect. We are both a constant work in progress. There is always room for improvement in every facet of your life. Showing up each day is about consistently pushing to get better so you can look back each year on the measurable growth you’ve made.On this journey, some people will tell you you’re trying too hard and that you need to stop taking everything so seriously. Others will make you feel like you’re not working hard enough.I’ve experienced both…We all are wired differently and work at our own pace. Each path we take is different yet similar as the mentality of showing up is consistent:[perfectpullquote align="full" cite="" link="" color="2e2e2e" class="" size="32"]Strive to become the best version of yourself each day.[/perfectpullquote]By doing this, you will eventually achieve those goals you’ve set for yourself but new ones always replace them. The beauty that lies within showing up is that you’ll continue to learn new areas that you can improve in.You never fully arrive at a destination because when you feel you’ve arrived, your potential is capped.
It’s About the Climb
Sometimes life is like a video game to me and I often get wrapped up in the end goal, thinking I can tell myself “I’ve made it” once I hit an objective. Yet the self-awareness that comes with showing up each day reminds me that it’s not about the destination. This mentality to better yourself each day reveals that true happiness and fulfillment happens during the climb. During your journey, you find the greatest joy during the process. The best example I can think of is several years ago I was in a dark place post-college. My life lacked a purpose and I felt hopeless. The struggle was real because I:
was drowning in fresh college debt.
couldn’t get a job in my degree
was overweight and hated looking at myself
was drinking and partying too much
had zero confidence in myself and my abilities
With all this going on, I managed to climb my way out of this hole. Each day I climbed a little more until something shifted in my mind.I grew the mentality of showing up each day which trickled into my work and my overall health. I was even able to grow an audience around my work and story.Writing, speaking and reading helped me articulate this shift in my life and now I want to share it with you.
Delicate Balance
As Neil mentioned earlier, showing up each day is a delicate balance of growth in your work and attitude. Your physical, mental and spiritual health are all delicately balanced together and improve with this mentality.Growing an audience is just an extension of this if you want it.Maybe there is something you truly want in life right now but you’re on the fence of pursuing it?Maybe you're struggling with the same issues I was once dealing with?I want this post to be your permission slip to start climbing and enjoy the fruit of showing up each day. Keep pushing yourself forward at your own pace and enjoy the ride. You’re a constant work in progress and that means your life can only get better.
