2 Hurdles holding you back

Find yourself constantly tiptoeing on the edge of burnout? 😣

Do you feel like you're always clawing your way out of a depressing creative funk? 😫

I've been there and can typically retrace it back to these 2 things:

Shiny Object Syndrome (SOS for short) and/or Superman Syndrome (SS for short).

If you're like me, these 2 traps notoriously throw me off my game and blind me from what matters most during whatever season I am.

Let's identify how both of these could be holding your creative gains hostage...

Along with 3 quick things I leverage to stay focused and see results.

1. Shiny Object Syndrome (SOS)

To me, this is becoming easily interested and distracted by anything new that positions itself as an opportunity.

When you can’t seem to focus, execute, or gain any traction—maybe it’s because you have your hands involved in too many things?

It's easy to live in a world of split focus. Only for it to divide your attention and efforts into too many buckets of interest.

Shiny object syndrome tends to have you committing to "okay" opportunities.

Which then holds your bandwidth hostage once a Hell Yes opportunity comes along.

2. Superman Syndrome (SS)

This is the ridiculous feeling you have to do it all, all the time.

This eventually becomes your kryptonite and prohibits explosive growth in an intentional direction.

You pile your plate high because you tell yourself, “I thrive in chaos and love the pressure.”

You glorify being busy over being productive.

You're scared to simplify, delegate, and eliminate because it's all important, and only YOU can do it.

You find yourself stretched too thin and spinning your wheels seeing minimal results.

3 Keys to Stay on Track

As mentioned, I've dealt with both of these hurdles plenty of times.

It leads to me becoming creatively stuck where I'm:

  • Taking zero action due to decision-making paralysis analysis.

  • Burning out because I've exhausted my energy by doing too much.

Together, they create a poisonous, distracting cocktail that forces me to procrastinate, stay up later, miss out on family time, and put self-care on the back burner.

It got so bad in years past that I found myself questioning, "Should I give up this creative quest?"

While I still deal with both of these on the occasion...

There are 3 key things that help keep me on track:

1. Setting Priorities 

I know I’ll drift and spin my wheels guessing if I don’t determine what my primary focus is for the season I’m in.

If you don’t have a north star to work toward, what direction are you supposed to devote your energy toward?

2. Managing Time

I’ll drown if I don’t know what my availability looks like within my finite bandwidth.

I constantly have to ask myself:

  • What does my week look like?

  • What time do I have available each day to focus on the priority?

3. Scheduling

It’s important for me to know the most urgent tasks to execute that move my biz forward.

This means executing my main projects, tasks, and deadlines within my schedule.

All 3 stack together which allows me to stay on track and simplify whenever life throws me curveballs.

Not only do they keep me focused and productive…

But I also teach my students how to leverage these daily which helps them unlock massive results.
